The Mozambique Association of Safari Operators (AMOS), within the framework of the Professional Hunter Certification Process in Mozambique, reaffirms its firm commitment to promoting biodiversity conservation, the sustainable use of natural resources, and the socio-economic development of local communities, in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mozambican environmental legislation, and international best practices applicable to the conservation and hunting tourism sector.
AMOS recognizes that sustainable hunting activities constitute an important wildlife conservation tool, contributing to the maintenance of ecosystems, the generation of revenues for the management of conservation areas, and the creation of economic opportunities for local communities. In this context, the certification of professional hunters aims to ensure that all professionals operating within the sector conduct their activities in an ethical, lawful, responsible, and environmentally sustainable manner.
The Association is committed to aligning its activities and training programmes with the Sustainable Development Goals, with particular emphasis on SDG 1 (No Poverty), through the promotion of economic benefits for rural communities; SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), through the professionalization of the sector and job creation; SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), through the responsible management of wildlife resources; SDG 13 (Climate Action), through the protection of natural ecosystems; SDG 15 (Life on Land), through biodiversity conservation and the fight against poaching; and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), by promoting respect for the rule of law and good governance in the management of natural resources.
The certification programme promoted by AMOS strictly adheres to the principles enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Mozambique, the Environmental Law, the Biodiversity Conservation Law, the Forestry and Wildlife Law, as well as their respective regulations, national conservation strategies, and other applicable legal instruments. Furthermore, AMOS is committed to respecting international conventions ratified by Mozambique, including the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and other international instruments relevant to nature conservation.
In the implementation of its activities, AMOS adopts an environmental and social safeguards-based approach, ensuring the prevention, mitigation, and management of potential adverse impacts on the environment, wildlife, and local communities. In this regard, its training programmes emphasize respect for the rights of communities living within conservation areas and sustainable use zones, the promotion of community participation in natural resource management, the recognition of traditional knowledge, equal opportunities, non-discrimination, and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits derived from the sustainable use of wildlife resources.
AMOS rejects any form of illegal hunting, trafficking of protected species, corruption, abuse of natural resources, or any other activities contrary to national legislation and conservation principles. All candidates participating in the certification process are sensitized to comply with the highest ethical and professional standards, assuming an active role in the monitoring, protection, and safeguarding of Mozambique’s natural heritage.
